Are SAT subject tests cancelled forever?Answered
I mean they'll never come back, not even after the pandemic is over, right?

They are gone for good, no chance of coming back as college board pushes APs more and more
The SATs have always been problematic because they are not actually merit-based, but favor (middle-class, generally Caucasian) education. As far back as the1990s, schools started to remove them from their admissions process.
Not so fun fact - they were adapted from US Army IQ tests in the 1920s by a known eugenicist, Carl Brigham, who stated that American test scores would be lower than European tests because of racial factors. (You know I won't/can't use the words he used.) COVID just accelerated the pace of their removal, and gave schools who were vacillating a good excuse to finally make the change. In an ideal world, they will never come back, but we shall see.
The subject tests and the optional essay will be discontinued starting in June 2021, so they aren’t coming back at all. Here’s the article they made: https://blog.collegeboard.org/January-2021-sat-subject-test-and-essay-faq I hope this helps!
