Admissions Advice

Any Ideas?

Hi there! I'm a Homeschooler in the 10th grade. I've recently been spending most of my time searching for colleges, but I'm having a hard time. I already found UCLA and Arizona State University to be my dream schools. So, I'm having a really hard time choosing more colleges. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Hey, what are you majoring in? That is a big part of choosing a college!

Do you have a particular region of the country you want your college to be in?

I was thinking; West, Mid-West, and South.

Hi there @NEpatriots_pal,

You'll want to build a well-balanced school list with 8-12 colleges that you could see yourself attending. In this list, you want a healthy mix of safeties, targets, and reaches. Safeties are schools that you will probably get into, targets are those where your application matches the median scores of their accepted students, and reaches are those schools with slim chances of acceptance but that you would love to attend (i.e. "dream" schools). So once you've designated where ASU and UCLA fall on this list, you can start adding onto and filling out the other categories to have a comprehensive and well-thought-out school list.

On our website, we have a school list hub, where you can find and categorize colleges as you begin your search. You can use our existing categories to rank colleges based on factors like prestige, academic program, diversity, location, and more.

Here is a livestream where one of our experts walks through how you can use the feature so that you can choose and evaluate colleges as you make your application plan: https://www.collegevine.com/livestreams/4118/building-your-school-list-live-demo

Hope this helps! Good luck finding colleges and building your school list!
