There was a fire in our Apartment, so we were homeless we had to move from house to house and this had a huge effect on my Grades and Now my GPA is 3.5 -3.6. I really worked hard to improve my GPA sophomore year and I did. Now I don't know what to do. We got housing in another city so we are changing schools this next semester. I took a college course over the course of first semester ( I got an A) I just didnt want to mess it up because it would be on my college transcript. Do you think this affect my chance of getting into Harvard.
I'm terribly sorry this happened to you and your family. This is definitely the kind of thing you could talk about in the "Additional Information" section of your CommonApp, or you could actually just write one of your essays about the experience if you want to and feel comfortable doing so. It absolutely makes sense that your grades dropped during this time, and Harvard admissions officers will be understanding of this. Provided you can continue to take challenging courses and do very well in them at your next school, you should still be considered. Ideally, you'll want to increase your unweighted GPA to at least a 3.8.
I wouldn't automatically assume that your grades in college or college-level courses now will go on your college transcript. Many schools will give you credit for these classes but won't actually put your old grades on your transcript. And then some schools (like Harvard!) won't give you credit regardless.
Wishing you the best of luck with the move and the new school.
