Hi!
I want to start a volunteering initiative that will help kids with neurodegenerative disorders by engaging them in art and music therapy to help them better cope with their disorder. Using fundraisers to get the art and music supplies, my vision is to have a community of kids all with similar struggles engaging in bonding activities through art and music. I want to major in neuroscience and hopefully work in the field of biotechnology, but I also love the arts including dance and art. I started by cold contacting a hospital that had a message request platform on its website, but they have not responded.
How can I further redefine my initiative, if needed? More importantly, how can I contact more hospitals in order to guarantee a venue in which I can start my volunteering initiative?
Thanks!
hey!
This is a really funny coincidence because I'm actually working on something similar with music therapy, and what I did was contact local hospitals to gauge interest. It was definitely easier for me because I've volunteered at aforementioned hospitals and therefore knew exactly who to reach out to. I'd recommend either trying to reach out to other hospitals/different people at the hospitals you've contacted. I wouldn't recommend using the message request feature on their website for something like a big project, those emails often get lost among more health concern-related emails.
If that doesn't work out, try reaching out to mental health organizations, preferably state-level, that would be willing to fund you. As far as I know, most states have mental health departments, so I'd recommend finding someone to contact there.
To further your initiative, make a detailed proposal for your project, including a budget plan if necessary. This way, when you email, you'll have something to send as an exact reference.
Hope this helps!
