I'm currently a junior and looking for passion projects idea. I love reading and watching crime scene investigation movies or series. My goal is to become a forensic scientist. Any advice is welcome.
Above all, it's probably important to find something you're genuinely passionate about and want to dedicate immense time to. The first thing that enters my mind is creating something of your own that deepens your interest in forensic science. You could write detective stories/crime scene investigation stuff. Taking that creative perspective could enable you to practice that mindset of crime investigation. Or perhaps if you want to have a more tangible impact, you could look at major flaws in the forensic data systems today. How reliable are fingerprint DNA analyses versus hair versus other matter? Is the nature of crime evolving such that murder weapons/motives/patterns are different today? You can always take a gamble with your local police department and ask to shadow investigations. Unlikely they'll permit that, but worth a shot anyway. Fundamentally, a passion project means finding something you're passionate about and exploring it.
Thank you for the ideas. I think I'm going to follow through with your suggestions :).
