I have a 31 on my ACT a 3.9 GPA and every school I'm looking at, for the most part, says I have to do more work. I'm already in dual enrollment and AP. All I want is to study animals and work for National Geographic. So far Texas A&M and LSU are my best bet. I live in Louisiana so LSU is too close for me. maybe I should just join the Marines out of high school. But hey, to get anywhere in life I guess you have to work twice as hard.
Does anyone else want to work with animals, and if you what courses are you taking?
What colleges are you looking at?
Hey!!
I'm currently working towards going into Veterinary Science. I would suggest you take any animal science courses provided at your school and/or join related clubs. I've been looking at Virginia Tech because of its animal science major along with a couple of other colleges with the same major! However, I would like to add that internships and summer camps help out. But if it says to do more work, it may be more of an extracurricular thing. This is what has been working out for me though, let me know what you think! Best of luck!!
Also, I forgot to add, that shadowing vets and anyone who works with animals is so helpful in learning and application. It's one thing to read about animal science and all of the careers it goes into, and it's another to see it in real-time.
Yeah, Virginia Tech is a really good school. I volunteer at Audubon Zoo with their conservation Program and talk to the guest about the importance of keeping our animals and habitats safe. For my 12th-grade year, I'm going to see if I can intern at either the Zoo or the Aquarium. Also, I am taking online courses in animal science and psychology. Good Luck to you too.
Hi there!
I am not headed towards a career with animals but the school I want to attend has some great animal related programs. You might want to look into the degrees offered at Delaware Valley University. They have a horse (i know there's a technical name, just can't remember it:) program, a small animal science program, and other animal related majors. They started as a farm school so they specialize in animals and plants.
OMG!
Thank you so much, I checked out the school and you're right it does have a lot of the the programs I'm looking for. Maybe I'll see you there?
Oh yeah, you’ll see me 😊 (assuming I am accepted). And I won’t be hard to find…I have never met another girl named Jael (tho people often call me Joel)! I will enter college fall of 2025. What about you? Lmk if you have any questions about the school…I really liked the vibe when I visited. I am also doing dual enrollment; DelVal is one of the most transfer-friendly schools, so I will be transferring in a full year of DE credits which is AWESOME! I did use the information on their website to choose classes that would transfer in for sure.
