Getting Ahead

I’m an incoming junior and recently moved to the U.S. I’ve realized that I’m currently behind in math, and I’d really like to catch up or get ahead. Unfortunately, my school doesn’t offer any summer school math classes that would help me advance. Are there any alternative options or resources you recommend that could help me improve my math skills and possibly move ahead?

If you want to increase course difficulty (ex., geometry -> calculus), check if your school offers graduation credit for courses at local 4-year/2-year colleges. That exposure can boost your knowledge, put you in higher-level classes, and possibly give you some usable college credit when you graduate. If you are trying to go up a level (advanced -> honors), taking the time to self-study (khan academy, study.com videos, online practice problems)in the course you'll be enrolled in can boost your grade, which can help you if you want to try and make a case to your school counselor to request to move up a level. I know multiple students at my school had very high grades in advanced courses, yet still got placed in the same level the year after; these students had done well enough on the benchmarks (what our school uses to asses student growth) so they let them move up. I understand that policies vary between districts, try and meet an upperclassman in your district who has had a similar experience with this! Hope this helps :)

honestly? just work extra hard on your maths skills. you dont need a summer school to drastically improve in maths - its all about practice. during the summer holidays, pull out your maths textbook - and literally do all the questions (obviously not in one setting - your priority is still your mental health, try not to get too burnt out) find out what your doing well on and what didn't go as well - and practice those. Just keep improving your maths. even if you can't get into a maths honor class, aiming for top 3 in the mainstream class is as good, if not better then being middle-ranked in an honor class.

I would personally recommend to check and see if your school does any form of duel enrollment with a local community college.
