I need some help finding a way to boost extracurricular activities outside of school that will make me noticeable for colleges.
My 9th and 10th grade grades were all As (94 and above, including AP classes), and I'm in several clubs, and I'll be an officer/section leader in a couple of them this upcoming school year. The issue is, I haven't really thought deeply about what colleges might look for/might want during 8th and 9th grade, and I know I'm running out of time to make something memorable for the higher-up colleges to even notice me.
I always have trouble thinking of ideas + scheduling them to actually have some sort of accomplishment to show, so I'd really appreciate any tips about how to start making working schedules and how to motivate oneself to have something to show after the work. Thanks!
The first thing to think about is what kind of university are you looking to go to? Setting extracurricular goals can vary significantly across different universities. For example, if you're looking to go to a state school in a state with a smaller population like Montana or New Mexico, you could probably get away with having loosely organized activities, like being in a few clubs, being on a board for a random club, playing some sports, and/or having a job. My strategy as someone with the hopes of going to The Ohio State University is quality over quantity. Junior and Senior year is the time to focus on things that actually matter to YOU and will help universities create an idea of who YOU are as an individual. Commit to 3-5 things that excite you, teach you life skills, and align with your goals and personality. In my Junior year I plan to focus on doing well at state level Model UN, competing in Mock Trial, coaching gymnastics, playing club volleyball, and building some skills in the finance and e-commerce space. Take initiative and really think about who you want to be inside university and outside in the world. You got this!!!
Well first when thinking about extra curriculars you need to think of you narrative plus the major you are going for. Colleges don't want a 100 things they typically want a story as to why you are doing extracurriculars. If you interested in public service, outreach, medicine etc, i recommend this: calendly.com/d/cv2f-984-3wg/30-minute-meeting. Look at my discussion that I posted right after yours! Hope this helps!
