looking for answers about AP's next year for a junior

Things to know about me:

I'm ambitious and set a high standard for myself, I'm currently a sophomore this year, and have a GPA of 3.5. Last year when I was a freshman, I had a GPA of 3.42, and I'm not exactly proud of it. I took AP HUGS last year, and this year I'm taking AP Bio and AP Psych.

Questions:

If I get 4.0's in my next 3 years, I max out at ~3.875 GPA. I hear from lots of my friends and classmates that colleges LOVE seeing improvement in grades during high school, but HOW much do they love it??? do they like it enough that they won't care that I didn't get a 4.0?

I also hear that college admissions officers compare you with other applicants of your racial demographic, and real talk It doesn't help me that I'm Asian (for obvious reasons). Is this true???

I'm aiming to take on at least 3 AP's next year when I'm a Junior. I've decided on 3 already which are APUSH, AP Chem and AP Precalc. Is this a good selection of AP's? should I do another? If so what are some recs?

Having a consistently high GPA is definitely a boost, but colleges also love to see improvement, because it demonstrates growth and resiliency. This definitely depends a lot on what schools you want to apply to.

Technically, admission officers aren't allowed to compare racial demographics, although including it in your personal statement can show how race has played a role in your identity or experiences.

The APs you take should be dependent on what major you're think of applying for in college. AP Bio, AP Psych and AP Chem are all very strong STEM APs, while AP HUGS and APUSH are humanities. This gives you a pretty wide variety of options. In terms of the workload, from my personal experience, APUSH and AP Chem definitely lean towards the heavier workload side, and AP Bio is based off a lot of memorization. As for recommendations, if you are planning on doing something related in STEM, I recommend you take a physics class (doesn't have to be AP) just to have some basic knowledge. I'm also planning on doing STEM, so I'm not very sure about humanities courses, but I've heard AP Lit can be very helpful.

Hope this helps!
