SAT vs. ACT

I'm a sophomore in MN, and I'm taking the ACT in April. I have been hearing very mixed things about taking the SAT. Is it worth it? I'll take the ACT at least three times to get the best score possible, but I don't know if I should focus on the SAT as well.

Personally, I think it’s worth it to take both tests, as a way to weight your results against each other. The ACT and SAT have completely different styles of questions and formats, so generally people will do better on one or the other based on their learning style. I’d recommend taking an SAT practice test at least once (search them up on College Board, they’re free) to gauge what your strengths and weaknesses are, then work to improve weak areas before taking the official test. That way, you don’t have to worry about taking multiple official tests to get the result you want. The same thing goes for the ACT. Do lots of practice tests, and try to do the actual test a maximum of only 2 times to look the best on college applications. Good luck!

It definitely depends what colleges you're looking at. I know some schools favor the ACT (I think mainly Midwestern and West Coast), and some the SAT, but, in my experience, you should choose one and reealllly lock in on it. I've also heard, depending on what score you get, some higher IVY league colleges don't like it if you retake these standardized tests too many times (it shows an overemphasis on testing), so don't stress too much! You got this!!

Based on my own experience I prefer the ACT I took both did better and felt better on the ACT. You should take a practice test on both to see which one feels better and focus on it. If you still can't decide it wouldn't hurt just taking both and then picking from there. Good luck!

Choose one test -> if you're struggling to choose, take a practice test for both tests and see how each one feels. Test scores will be beneficial when applying to top colleges (do not apply test-optional).

i'd check depending on what college you want to go to. generally if your going for higher level schools or ivies taking the SAT will only help your chances
