Hey Y’all. I’m a sophomore in the class of ‘28. For my schedule next year, I have to choose which Language Arts course can fulfill my 3rd credit for Language Arts (4 credits is the minimum). I want to take the capstone program, since many colleges give more advancement than the other AP English courses. However, the AP Lit and Lang offers a local college credit. This means I don’t have to take the exam and have college credits. Which one should I take?
Bit about myself: Want to be a geneticist. In the band (Clarinet and Tenor Sax), chorus, National Art Honors Society. Want to be in the Tri-M, NHS, and National Spanish Honors Society
Hi, I have several friends who are taking capstone and absolutely hate the second year (research), I'm an AP Lang right now and I would definitely recommend it, I've gotten so much better with my writing skills. I'm able to write essay so much faster. It's such a useful class. I would definitely recommend it don't know much about lit.
We are very similar. I do clarinet in band, and I'm in Tri-M, NHS, and Spanish Honor Society. I totally get not having room, that's the hardest part about scheduling. If I were you, I would think about schools I'm considering going to and seeing what type of credit they accept. Lit and Lang get credits at a lot of schools, but then again, I'm not too familiar with Capstone. I think the best option is to look at the types of schools you want to attend.
Hi! I've taken Capstone, Lang, and will take Lit next year, and honestly it depends on your strengths. Capstone requires good research skills and ability to self-motivate for long periods of time (months for Seminar, a year for Research). For Lang and Lit, you need to know how to analyze texts pretty well and write timed essays (none of those in Capstone). Lang and Lit are more traditional English classes while Capstone focuses on research and little to none textual analysis.
