How is "support" defined for FAFSA for divorced parents? What's included? Sports fees, car expenses, phone?
Answered

FAFSA for divorced parents. FAFSA will soon require form to be completed by parent who provides the most financial support to the student (rather than the one the student lives with more.) How is this determined/defined - does support mean sports fees and expenses, phone, car, etc., or simply food, shelter, clothing, medical? What type of "proof" will be required?

I believe that the main way they will determine this is dependency status. The parent who claims you as a dependent on their tax return will by default be the one who financially supports you the most. Spending more time with one parent than the other, due to custody agreements or other reasons, will still make them be seen as the parent that provides the most financial support. There is no information on the Student Aid website about providing proof that one parent pays for food, medical expenses, etc. Hope this helps!
