My school doesn't have a lot of options, but I'm just unsure of what classes I should be trying to take as a sophomore.
For classes I would recommend taking the highest possible science classes that either your school offer or that you think that you can handle while maintaining a high GPA. For extracurriculars I think you should cold call/cold email organizations or companies that specialize in chemical forensics and try to land a research position or internship if possible. You could also shadow a professional in this field and observe, take notes, and ask questions (write down the amount of hours you shadowed for). I would also look into volunteering especially in a stem related area. You could also join science related clubs or honor societies and compete in things like science olympiad, science fairs, or other competitions. Do a passion project or research paper: first find a professional/mentor/professor who can guide and maybe even publish your work if possible. As a sophomore you should also look into summer programs that are highly selective. Make sure that they follow either a tier 2 or 1 level according to collegevine (it is honestly pretty accurate) if they arent a tier 2 or 1 it will not add much and could waste a lot of money and time. Classes you could take include AP or honors chem, AP or honors bio, ap or honors physics, ap psychology, honors chem 2 or bio 2. also just look for overall course rigor and selectiveness for ecs. ecs you should have a focused but varied list: a lot of volunteer hours, experience in the field, and display of interest.
I would start with basics such as chemistry, biology, and earth and environmental. Not quite sure if you want to go anatomy and physiology route or even offered at your school. If public safety is offered then you can take that class to learn how law enforcement works.
