Hello, I am a rising sophomore (Class of 2028) and I don't know what I should be doing or what I should put on my college application. If anybody could help me that would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, I am completely stuck and don't know if I am wasting my time or not. For those who respond, thanks in advance.
Hi! It generally depends what you want to focus on in college. If you unsure right now, I think that you should be focusing on solid, passionate extracurriculars that make you you. There is no point in being mediocre in something you are not passionate about. I say grades also are a big point and good SAT or ACT scores for schools that are not test optional. AP/IB/DE classes are good to take for academic rigor also and to just challenge you in general. Do not be afraid to outside communities to volunteer/intern; the worst they can say is no. Visit colleges nearby you too if you want!
Hi, I would say that it is never a bad idea to get involved in sports and clubs, and always try to be as successful as you can be. Being in HN and AP classes always looks good, but don't overwork yourself with an overly heavy course load.
I would suggest putting down hobbies that could be effective in helping you stand out to a college admissions officer. If you do sports, put those on there; if you are part of clubs, put those down. I would recommend having a diverse profile of activities. I wouldn't suggest joining random clubs or activities just to try to elevate your college admissions; instead, opt for something that you think could either help you pursue your desired career path or interests you. Also, if you're at that academic level, take advanced-level classes; not only do they help boost your GPA, but they look really good in college admissions. Also, if your school offers any college programs or start college now kind of things, take as many of those classes as you can, because it will help you save a lot of money. It looks good to already have some sort of advancement when looking at colleges and not only will it make your admission look good but then you will also have a baseline for how college classes work and how you need to work to complete them.
I would recommend joining a bunch of clubs at school to help figure out what you're interested in (ex. Model UN, mock trial, math team, etc.). Then from there, you can begin to shift your focus to a couple of these clubs and put all your effort into these so that you can eventually get leadership roles! I would also recommend doing internships and shadowing. It really depends on what you want to do and are planning on potentially majoring it- let me know what you're thinking of doing and I can try to give you some more specific advice!
