Hey, has anyone experienced being a part of the National Society of Leadership and Success? I got an invitation and I'm not sure whether it's a worthy organization or just a scam. Any insight would be appreciated!
The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) is a certification program designed to develop leadership skills through online courses, networking team meetings, and leadership training days. It's not a scam; however, it's worth noting that it does have membership dues. Being part of such an organization could provide access to various scholarships and discounts, and the potential for developing networks.
As a factor in your college application, it falls in the Tier 4 level of extracurricular activities — the kind that includes general club/sports/musical membership and general volunteering. While it's not unimpressive, it tends not to particularly stand out on its own because it is not very selective.
Whether NSLS is worth it mainly depends on what you want to gain. If you're genuinely interested in advancing your leadership skills, and networking with other student leaders, then joining can provide you with valuable experiences and skills. But if your main goal is to impress colleges or pad your resume, there may be more impactful ways to do so, such as pursuing initiatives or roles that align with your interests and show clear achievement or impact. For instance, launching a community service project or taking on a leadership role in student government or another club could present more potent opportunities.
