In search of military friendly colleges

Hi everyone! Can someone recommend any colleges that are known for their military friendly policies? I'm transitioning out of the service soon and I'm beginning to look at colleges to apply to. Guidelines and supports for Veterans would be especially appreciated!

Absolutely, it's wonderful that you're considering transitioning to college after your service. You'll want to look for colleges that participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, offer dedicated student veteran services, and have a strong ROTC presence.

Firstly, consider schools that participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, this can really help to offset the costs of tuition. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the law that created the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Schools that participate agree to waive a portion of the tuition that the GI Bill doesn't cover, and the Department of Veterans Affairs will match the school's waiver.

Syracuse University is one such school that is known for its strong commitment to those who have served in the military. They have a dedicated Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, which provides comprehensive resources including career services specifically tailored for veterans. They also participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Another school to consider would be Georgetown University. Georgetown has a Veterans Office that provides resources and support for veteran students. Georgetown also participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Then there's Arizona State University (ASU), which prides itself on its support for military and veteran students. They also accept the GI Bill and take part in the Yellow Ribbon Program. ASU has a Pat Tillman Veterans Center which supports veterans, active duty military members, and their dependents.

What these schools and others have in common is a strong support network and numerous resources for veterans. Additionally, many have a community of veterans on campus, which can really enhance your experience.Always ensure to check with each individual school for their specific veteran policies. Be sure to ask about credit for service, dedicated counselors for military and veteran students, and any veteran-specific orientations the school may offer. Good luck with your college search!
