Colleges that Cater to Active Duty Military Students?

Currently, I'm serving active duty but have been considering getting a college degree. Are there colleges out there that can accommodate and cater toward active duty military members? If so, any recommendations?

Absolutely, many institutions have programs and accommodations specifically designed for active duty military members. Education can be a flexible endeavor and several colleges and universities understand and respect the unique needs of service members.

One such institution is American Military University (AMU), which is fully online and caters specifically to military and public service communities. It offers affordable tuition rates, monthly start dates, and a choice of more than 200 degree and certificate programs.

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is another institution worth considering. UMGC was one of the first universities in the country to send faculty overseas to teach active-duty military personnel stationed in Europe. Today, they offer online courses and have satellite campuses in more than20 countries, including Japan, Germany, and South Korea.

Excelsior College also has a strong military program. They provide flexible online classes that you can complete anywhere, and they're very generous in awarding credit for military training and experience.

Along a similar line, Central Michigan University offers online courses and has an extensive list of satellite locations on military bases throughout the U.S.Lastly, many state universities offer online programs and accommodations for active duty military. It's worth checking state schools in your home state, as they often offer discounted tuition for residents.

Remember to consider each school's accreditation, transfer of military credits, flexibility, degree offerings, and tuition assistance when choosing a college. Additionally, most schools accept the GI Bill, and many participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which can provide extra financial assistance.

At the end of the day, the best college for you will depend on your individual circumstances, including your area of interest, career goals, learning style, and schedule constraints.
