Curiosity about highest GPA: do we have a universal record?

Hey, was just wondering if there is such a thing as the highest GPA ever achieved by a student. Is there a universally acknowledged 'record holder' for that?

There isn't truly a "universal record holder" when it comes to GPA because grade point averages can vary greatly depending on the grading scale used by a particular high school. For example, some high schools use a 4.0 scale, while others use a 5.0 or even a 6.0 scale due to the weighting of honors, AP, or IB courses. As such, a student with a 4.0 GPA in a system with a 4.0 maximum might be perfect in their system, but someone else could have a 5.4 in a system that allows for above a 5.0. This latter GPA might appear higher, but when you consider the different grading scales, both learners may have effectively perfect qualifications. In all cases, universities typically re-calculate GPAs based on their own standards during the admissions process, which makes it even harder to determine a universal record holder. They do this to level the playing field and compare students fairly. The best thing for students to strive for is to get the highest GPA they can within their own school's grading system and not worry too much about setting a universal record.
