Meal Plans at Northeastern University?

What's the scoop on meal plans at Northeastern University? Any thoughts on the options available, the food quality, or the best places to eat?

Northeastern University actually offers a variety of meal plan options to cater to the diverse needs of their students. First-year students are required to purchase a meal plan, but options vary based on the type of housing you have. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the options range from NU-100 to NU-Unlimited. Each plan includes a set number of meals per week and a certain amount of dining dollars that can be used flexibility throughout the semester.

The food quality tends to be quite good, based on student feedback. Northeastern Dining is run by Chartwells, and they strive to provide diverse food selections with healthy options and accommodations for various dietary restrictions. International Village is renowned for global cuisines and also has a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options available. The Stetson East/West dining halls tend to be student favorites as well, due to the variety of meals including stir fry, pasta bars, and grill stations. You can also use meal plan points at participating campus restaurants, which range from fast food like Dunkin or Subway, to full-fledged restaurants like Tatte.

Remember that your meal plan also comes with dining dollars which can be used at various locations on campus, including dining halls, food courts, snack shops, and some local restaurants. It adds a layer of flexibility beyond the basic dining hall meals. Northeastern has devoted a lot of thought and effort into making sure its dining services cater to the needs of its students, so most find they're able to work out a system that fits their needs and tastes. As with anything, the best advice is to try everything for yourself and see what works for you, as food preference can greatly vary from student to student.
