Hello, everyone. I've recently come across Pennsylvania Military College during my college search, and it piqued my interest. Can anyone provide more information about this college? What kind of programs do they offer? How's the campus life? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
Pennsylvania Military College (PMC) was a private military college located in Chester, Pennsylvania. The college was established in 1821 as Delaware Military Academy by Captain Alden Partridge, who was a former superintendent of West Point. Throughout its history, the institution underwent several name changes and rebranding efforts until it eventually became known as Pennsylvania Military College. PMC provided a military-style education, much like what one would see at a place like The Citadel or Virginia Military Institute, with the intent of developing disciplined, responsible leaders.
However, it's important to mention that Pennsylvania Military College officially closed its doors in 1972. In place of Pennsylvania Military College, Widener University was established, which now operates on the PMC's former campus. While Widener University isn't a military academy, it does maintain the PMC legacy through its ROTC program, as well as housing the PMC museum, which showcases the institution’s history.
Again, though, it is important to clarify that Pennsylvania Military College doesn't currently exist as its own independent institution. So if you're interested in a military-style education, you might want to consider other options like the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, or the U.S. Air Force Academy, as well as civilian institutions with strong Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs.
Remember, too, that attending a military-style institution or enrolling in an ROTC program is a significant commitment that extends beyond your college years, as it often involves service in the U.S. armed forces following graduation. It's not a choice to take lightly, and you want to ensure that such a path aligns with your long-term personal and professional goals.
