Honors Program at the George Washington University

Hi all, I'm considering applying to the Honors Program at George Washington University. Can anyone shed some light on what the program is like, what it offers, and how selective it is? Appreciate the help!

George Washington University's University Honors Program (UHP) offers a distinctive experience for motivated students seeking academic challenge and enrichment. The program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, blending together social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and more. It also provides smaller class sizes to facilitate engaging discussions and close contact with faculty.

Participation in UHP also comes with benefits outside the classroom such as priority registration, dedicated academic advising, special study abroad opportunities, and exclusive residence halls for honors students. Furthermore, UHP students are often provided with unique research or internship opportunities thanks to the university's connections in the heart of DC.

As for selectivity, the UHP is indeed quite selective. While exact rates may change from year to year, know that admission to the program will be competitive. To apply, you have to indicate your interest on your GWU application and write an additional essay. Admissions decisions are based on a holistic review of your application. This means your academic performance, test scores (assuming you've decided to share them as GWU is test-optional), essays, extracurricular engagement, and recommendation letters all matter. A high GPA and a rigorous academic schedule may strengthen your application.

While it can be a stretch, I encourage you to apply if you're looking for an academically rigorous environment and a unique, interdisciplinary educational approach. Being part of an honors program can greatly enhance your university experience as you'll be surrounded by motivated peers and provided with opportunities tailor-made to your intellectual curiosity.
