Finding Military Friendly Colleges in Georgia

I live in Georgia and plan on joining the military post high-school, but I also want to get my degree. Does anyone have a list of military friendly colleges in Georgia or advice on how to find these?

Sure, many universities in Georgia are considered military friendly, which means they offer services and programs specifically geared towards supporting students who are current or former service members, and sometimes their families as well. Here are few such universities and some notable aspects of their military support:

1. The University of Georgia: UGA's Student Veterans Resource Center offers wide-ranging support to student veterans, including transition assistance, benefit certification, and even career services. They've been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a "Best School for Veterans".

2. Georgia Southern University: This university places a heavy emphasis on assisting veterans, active duty service members, guardsmen, reservists and dependents to succeed with their college education.

3. Kennesaw State University: KSU's Military and Veterans Services provides advisement, benefits processing assistance, coaching and tutoring, among other things.

4. Georgia State University: GSU has put in place a Veteran Upward Bound program to provide veterans with counseling regarding admission, financial aid, academic training and curriculum.

In general, look for schools that have a dedicated office of veterans services, offer academic credit for military training, have a chapter of the Student Veterans of America, or are part of the VA's Principles of Excellence program.

Additionally, you will want to research whether schools participate in Yellow Ribbon Program. It's part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which allows veterans to attend expensive private schools and graduate programs costing more than the state tuition cap, as well as out-of-state schools. Georgia-based Emory University is a notable participant.

One last piece of advice is to communicate directly with admissions offices and ask about their resources for military students. They can provide detailed and up to date information about their programs and services. Good luck on your search!
