Understanding UCSD Colleges - How do they compare?

Hey folks! I've been looking at UCSD and it seems like they've got a unique college system. I'm having a hard time understanding it though. How do these UCSD colleges compare and differ from one another? Which one should I choose if I have multiple interests?

UC San Diego indeed has a rather unique college system. The university is divided into eight colleges, and each college not only provides academic programs but also has its own general education requirements, campus living arrangements, and student services. The seven colleges are: Revelle, John Muir, Thurgood Marshall, Earl Warren, Eleanor Roosevelt, Sixth, Seventh, and Eigth.

The educational philosophy and general education requirements of each college are unique. For example, Revelle College emphasizes a strong liberal education with its general education requirements spanning from natural science, social science, to the humanities. Contrastingly, John Muir College emphasizes individual choice with much less stringent distribution requirements.

The college you choose does not limit your choice of major or impede your progress towards graduation, since each college offers all the university's majors. Rather, it influences the kind of coursework you'll focus on outside of your major, as well as your living and learning environment.

If you have multiple interests, you might appreciate a college with a broader set of general education requirements, like Revelle or Roosevelt. On the other hand, if you'd like more freedom to explore courses and want less general-education obligations, you could opt for something like John Muir.

It's crucial to understand the philosophy and requirements of each college while making a decision. Do some research to identify which college aligns with your academic objectives and personal preferences. This will make your college experience more fulfilling and tailored to your needs.
