Looking into Dartmouth

Y'all, I’ve seen Dartmouth on so many top university lists recently - makes me curious. Anyone able to weigh in on whether it's worth the hype? Specifically thinking about class sizes and the availability of professors. I'd love to get a student's perspective.

Dartmouth is indeed an exceptional institution, and for several good reasons that go beyond its popularity on top university lists. One of the standout features that Dartmouth boasts is a very low student-to-professor ratio. This means classes tend to be on the smaller side compared to other universities, resulting in more personalized attention and interaction opportunities with professors.

The college is renowned for its strong commitment to undergraduate education and as a result, professors there are known to be quite invested in their students. They're frequently available for office hours or even informal discussions after class. This means that, unlike in some larger universities, you're less likely to be taught by teaching assistants. Many students appreciate the access to faculty, some of whom are leaders in their fields.

Additionally, Dartmouth's D-Plan system, which follows a quarter schedule, allows for a level of flexibility catered to the students' needs. This system allows students to work into their schedule study abroad programs, internships and extensive research opportunities that might be more difficult to accommodate at other schools.

Remember, however, the best college is one that fits you well. While Dartmouth has undeniable strengths, make sure to consider other factors like location, culture, extracurricular opportunities, and overall atmosphere alongside academic criteria. It might be worth trying to talk to a current student or alumnus, or even visiting the campus if possible, to get a more comprehensive and personal understanding of the Dartmouth experience.
