Active Duty Military College Grants, any suggestions?

Hey guys, I'm on active duty and looking for ways to reduce my college expenses. I've heard about military college grants. Can anyone guide me on how to apply for these grants, any specific ones you would recommend?

It's brilliant to see that you're exploring educational opportunities while on active duty! Military college grants are definitely a resource you should consider. The first one that comes to mind is the Tuition Assistance Program, which is a federally-funded opportunity available to active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve Component service members. This grant covers up to100% of tuition fees and offers a maximum of $250 per semester hour. Your military branch's education service officer (ESO) is a good starting point for this process.

Then, there's the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) which provides up to36 months of education benefits for service-members and veterans. To apply, you would need to submit an application through the Veterans Affairs (VA) office.

Post9/11 GI Bill is another fantastic grant that covers full tuition and fees at public colleges and universities, and up to a certain amount for private or foreign schools. On top of tuition, it also provides a housing allowance and stipend for books and supplies. You'll be eligible depending on your service post-September10,2001.

The Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (for those specifically in the Coast Guard) also provides various scholarships and educational assistance, including the Leavitt Scholarship and Stafford/PLUS Loan Fee Reimbursement.

These are a few examples. Each service branch may have others, so I would recommend reaching out to education services at your base, or your branch's equivalent, for information on all the benefits available to you. Also, don't forget to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to see if you qualify for additional need-based grants. Just remember to not confuse these grants with military loans, as those will need to be repaid eventually.Good luck on your educational journey! Remember, it's crucial to apply early and stay informed about the deadlines.
