Harvard or Yale - such a dilemma

I'm lucky enough to be considering both Harvard and Yale. What are some key aspects I should think about when deciding between the two? Any personal experiences?

Certainly, both Harvard and Yale are renowned institutions with a lot to offer, but their experiences and environments can be quite different.

In terms of academics, both schools are top-notch across the board. However, you might want to look into the strengths and structures of the departments you're interested in. For instance, Harvard's Economics program is widely regarded as one of the best, and the university overall is known for its emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship. Yale, on the other hand, is often praised for its Political Science and English programs and overall excels in humanities.

Another crucial factor to consider is the social atmosphere. Yale's residential college system is unique and fosters a close-knit community atmosphere. Students live, dine, and often take classes within their residential college, creating a deep sense of community and school pride. In contrast, Harvard has a house system, which is similar but not as intensely community-oriented because students aren't part of their chosen house until their second year.

Location can also play a part in your decision. Harvard sits right outside of Boston, a city brimming with rich history, diverse cultures, and a vibrant social scene. Yale, located in New Haven, Connecticut, offers more of a small-town feel, consequently giving the campus a central role in the city's activities.

Lastly, it's always a good idea to attend admitted students' events if possible. This allows you to vibe check the campus, meet potential classmates, and get a feel for the environment and culture of the institution.In the end, your choice should be about fit.
