Grant Money for College for Active Duty Military, how to get it?

Hi there, folks. Currently, I'm on active duty in the military and considering going to college. I've been told there might be some grant money out there for those in my position. Does anyone have information on this subject, or tips on how to apply?

Hello! First off, thank you for your service. It's admirable that you're looking at pursuing a college degree while on active duty. You'll be glad to know that indeed, there are several resources available to you.

One of the most notable ones is the Tuition Assistance (TA) program offered by each branch of the military. This covers up to 100% for tuition expenses. Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, so it would be beneficial to reach out to your respective education service officer or counselor.

Beyond the TA program, active-duty military personnel are also eligible to apply for the Federal Pell Grant. This is need-based and does not need to be repaid. The amount you can receive changes yearly and depends on your financial need, cost of attendance, and more. You can apply for the Pell grant using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In addition, there are multiple military-specific scholarships and grants. For instance, scholarships like the Heroes' Legacy Scholarship and grants like the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant are options to explore. To maximize your opportunities, I'd recommend speaking with your military base’s education office. They're typically very knowledgeable about what resources are available. Lastly, it's a good idea to speak with the financial aid office at the college you're interested in attending. They can provide guidance and assistance based on your specific circumstances.

Best of luck with your educational pursuits! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
