Seeking Colleges with Active Greek Life

Hi all! I'm considering to go Greek during college and I've been trying to find out which colleges have a good Greek life scene. I would also like to know about the impact of being part of sororities/fraternities academically and socially. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Indeed, being part of Greek life can have both academic and social impacts. Academically, many fraternities and sororities emphasize a commitment to scholastic achievement, with programs such as study hours and tutoring assistance. You may find that being part of a Greek organization can not only help you academically, but also provide you with a ready-made network of friends and support.

Regarding the schools, there are some that stand out for their active Greek life:

1. University of Alabama: Nearly a third of undergraduate men and more than half of undergraduate women go Greek. The fraternity and sorority community here encompasses over 70 organizations.

2. Indiana University-Bloomington: This university also has a significant Greek presence, with nearly a fourth of the undergraduate men and nearly third of the undergraduate women belonging to fraternities and sororities.

3. University of Southern California (USC): Here, around a fourth of the students are involved in Greek life, making for a strong and vibrant Greek community.

4. Dartmouth College: With a small-campus vibe, Greek life plays a dominant role in the Dartmouth social scene, with nearly two-thirds of qualified undergraduates belonging to fraternities and sororities.

It's important to remember that each campus 'Greek' culture can vary. Some colleges have a large percentage of students in fraternities or sororities, while others may have a vibrant Greek scene without necessarily having a large percentage of participation. It would be a good idea to chat with current students at these institutions to gain a clearer picture of Greek life on their specific campus.
