High school classes for future nursing students?

I'm super interested in a career in nursing and was wondering what classes I should be focusing on during my remaining high school years. Are there specific science or math courses that would give me a leg up in the nursing field later on?

Hi there! It's awesome to hear you're interested in pursuing nursing. Given that nursing is a science-heavy field, you should focus primarily on the sciences, such as biology, anatomy, physiology, and chemistry. These will give you a solid foundation for your nursing coursework in college. Also, having a good grasp of mathematics is beneficial, so take classes through Algebra II and consider statistics, as that's particularly relevant to the field.

If your high school offers any electives in health sciences or practical courses like a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, those would be incredibly valuable as well. Don't forget to maintain a strong overall academic performance since nursing programs can be competitive.

Lastly, it would be beneficial if you could gain some volunteer experience at a local hospital or clinic, as this would not only solidify your interest in the field but also enhance your college applications. Good luck!
