Medical school potential: Are there minors that look good?

So, I'm planning on going the pre-med route, but was wondering if there were any minors that would make my application to medical school stand out? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Although it's important to remember that medical schools don't necessarily favor any specific majors or minors, there are certain minors that can help augment your pre-med degree and provide a holistic educational background.

Choosing a minor in a Humanities subject such as Ethics, Medical Humanities, Sociology, Anthropology, or Psychology can demonstrate your ability to connect with patients, understand societal contexts, and approach medical problems from various perspectives.

On the other hand, selecting a minor in a Science or Technological field outside of your pre-med track, like Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, or Computer Science, can show medical schools your interest and competence in the progressive technological aspects of medicine.

A Global Health or Public Health minor can be advantageous too, as it signifies a broader understanding of health systems and issues on an international scale.

Finally, a minor in languages, especially those frequently spoken in the area where you plan to practice, can definitely underline your ability to communicate more effectively with a broader patient population.

But ultimately, you should select a minor that speaks to your personal passions and interests. You'll excel in courses and potential research in areas you are genuinely intrigued by, which will manifest positively on your application. And remember, success in your chosen minor will reflect both your academic strengths and your personal interests, two factors that medical schools certainly value.
