Indiana University Bloomington Housing Application

Hello, I'm thinking ahead to if I get admitted to my dream school, Indiana University. Can anybody walk me through the housing application process? How does the whole thing work and what should I expect? Cheers!

The housing application process at Indiana University Bloomington typically begins in the early spring for incoming students. This follows a few steps:

1. Housing Application: You would first need to access the housing application which can be found in your One.IU account. Once you log in, search for "Housing Portal” and select the term you are applying for. Most of this process involves filling in your personal information, preference for type of housing (suite, double, single), dietary restrictions, and more.

2. Roommate Selection: If you have a specific roommate in mind, you will have a chance to request them during the application process. Both of you will need to request each other and have compatible housing preferences for it to be official. If you don't have a preferred roommate, don’t worry! The system will provide you with a list of potential roommates based on the preferences and lifestyle information both you and other students entered when filling out the housing application.

3. Learning Community (Optional): IU Bloomington offers many learning communities where you can live with students who share similar academic interests. This is completely optional, and if you're interested, you can select this option while filling out the application.

4. Contract Signing: After you've completed your application, you'll have to sign a contract for the upcoming year. You’ll get a lot more information once you're at this stage, just make sure to read through everything carefully!

Once all the applications are in, you will be assigned a timeslot during the summer to choose your room from what's available based on your prior housing preferences. Of course, while preferences are considered, they can't be guaranteed, so you might have to be flexible!

Lastly, Insurance: IU strongly encourages you to have your personal property insured. Your family’s homeowner’s policy may include your personal items when you're on campus. If it doesn't, you might want to consider a renter’s insurance policy.

Good luck with your housing application!
