How Does Colby College Stack Up?

To anyone out there who might have some insights: I'm thinking about applying to Colby College, but is it a good school? I'm looking for strong academics, of course, but also a great community.

Certainly, Colby College is a well-regarded liberal arts college, particularly known for its strong programs in environmental science, global studies, and English literature. The campus is known for its beautiful location in Waterville, Maine, which provides a lot of outdoor recreational opportunities.

As far as community goes, Colby College is a small school with a student body of approximately 2,300, which fosters a close-knit, community-focused environment. Because of its setting, students often form tight bonds as they explore their academic interests together while also enjoying the nature and outdoor activities that Maine has to offer. There are also over 100 student clubs and organizations to participate in, contributing to an engaged assortment of different communities within the larger college body.

Interestingly, every student at Colby is guaranteed to have an internship or research experience. This commitment highlights the school's dedication to ensuring their students are prepared for life after graduation and emphasizes its focus on strong academics.

Colby also maintains a commitment to sustainability, with a number of its buildings being LEED certified and a campus-wide goal to reach carbon neutrality.

However, keep in mind, a college's fit isn't just about the academics and community. It's also important to consider factors like the campus culture, the location, the size of the school, and the types of extracurricular activities available. If possible, it can be helpful to visit the school or connect with current students or alumni to get a better sense of whether it's the right fit for you.
