Looking for info on military colleges in New Jersey

Hello. I'm a junior and I'm interested in joining the military. I live in New Jersey and I've been thinking about applying to military colleges in my state. Is there anyone who could tell me more about the options out here and maybe their admission requirements?

Sure! One of the main options for military colleges in New Jersey is the United States Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May. This is an eight-week residential program that trains individuals to serve as enlisted personnel in the Coast Guard.

However, for a four-year college education with a military focus, you'd be looking more towards a Service Academy or a Senior Military College (SMC). Unfortunately, New Jersey does not house any of these; the closest option would be the United States Military Academy, more commonly known as West Point, in New York.

If you're interested in Naval studies, perhaps the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) program housed at Rutgers University could be of interest. This program allows you to complete your normal college education at Rutgers while also taking specific naval science classes and leadership training, with the aim of commissioning as Naval officers upon graduation. As for admissions, each program has its own requirements. The Rutgers NROTC program, for example, emphasizes strong academic records, physical fitness, and extracurricular involvement. There's also a scholarship application process. For the Service Academies, competitive applicants typically have high academic performance, robust SAT or ACT scores, strong Community Service engagement, maybe some AP course participation, leadership in extracurricular activities, and good athletic performance. They also need a congressional nomination, successfully pass a medical examination, and meet rigorous physical requirements.Don't forget, pursuing a college education with a military focus isn't the only path into the military. You could also consider enlisting after high school, attending a civilian college and joining a ROTC program, or applying to Officer Candidate School after earning your bachelor's degree. Good luck with your decision.
