Hey guys! I've recently been admitted to Rice and I am stoked! I heard about this O-Week thing and was wondering about the details. What all does it entail? MMight be an obvious question but still kinda lost.
Hey, congratulations on your admission to Rice! That's an awesome feat!
O-Week at Rice University is essentially an orientation week. It's a week-long introduction to life at Rice before the start of the fall semester. This is a period packed with different activities that are designed to help incoming students learn more about the school, make new friends, and settle into their new campus life.
During O-Week, you'll be introduced to your residential college (Rice has 11), your fellow students, and everything from academic advising to campus culture. Each residential college has a team of upperclassmen, known as O-Week Coordinators, who plan a week's worth of activities for the new students - from college tours and academic policy discussions to friendly competitions and social events. It's a mix of fun, bonding, and learning.
Also during O-Week, you'll meet with your academic advisor to discuss your academic plan and register for classes. There are also sessions that cover resources for student support, community standards, wellness, diversity, and inclusion. More than anything, it's a time to get acclimated to Rice, begin to form your community, and get excited about the adventure ahead!
This is certainly a special tradition at Rice and is often fondly remembered by Rice students as a pivotal part of their college experience. I hope you find this helpful and that you have an amazing time at O-Week!
