What's the deadline for Stanford's early decision?

Hi everyone! Can anybody tell me the deadline for applying via early decision to Stanford? If you applied early decision, can you share your experience? What should I keep in mind? Thanks!

Hi! Stanford University actually has Restrictive Early Action (REA), not Early Decision. The key distinction is that REA, while non-binding, restricts you from applying to other private institutions during the early action round—though you can still apply to public and international universities Early Action. But don't worry, you're still able to apply to the others under Regular Decision later.

The deadline for Restrictive Early Action at Stanford typically falls on November1. It's always a good idea to double-check the specific dates as they can sometimes slightly vary each year.As for your experience applying early, one thing to note is that the timeline is expedited. That means you'll have to have your essays, test scores (if applicable), and letters of recommendation ready way ahead compared to Regular Decision. It's important to plan ahead and start working on your application sooner. Many students applying early mention feeling a bit more stress because of the early timeline, but they also appreciate getting their decisions much earlier—in mid-December for Stanford. If admitted, you'll have much more time to plan for your college transition.

Also, you should know that applying early doesn't necessarily mean it's easier to get in. Admissions rates can often look a bit higher in REA because recruited athletes and legacy students often apply in this round.Lastly, remember that applying REA to Stanford doesn't prevent you from applying to colleges through non-binding, non-restrictive Early Action plans, just not at private schools. You'll still have plenty of backup options open.

I hope this was helpful. Best of luck with your application!
