Feeling Lost as a Senior

I'm a senior and still not exactly sure what I want to do or where I want to go after high school. Does anyone have any advice or resources they found helpful when they felt this way?

It's completely normal to feel uncertain about the next steps after high school, and you're not alone in this situation. Many students experience this type of uncertainty when transitioning from one stage of life to another.

First up, self-reflection is crucial. Spend some time thinking about your strengths, interests, and values. Think about what you enjoy doing, as well as what you're good at. What subjects interest you most in school? What activities are you most drawn to outside of school? Your responses to these questions may suggest potential paths for you.

You can also try a variety of career assessment tools that can help identify possible career paths that align with your interests and strengths. These tools usually present you with a series of questions or statements, and your responses help determine the types of career pathways you may be most suited to.

Talking to others can be immensely helpful as well. This could include your high school guidance counselor, teachers, family members, or older friends who have already made these decisions. They may be able to provide insights from their own experiences, or simply provide you with a different perspective to consider.

Collegewise and CollegeVine both have great blogs filled with advice for high school students exploring their post-graduation options. They cover a wide range of topics - from choosing a college major to apprenticeships and gap years.

It's important to remember that it's okay not to have everything figured out right now. Many people change their career paths multiple times throughout their lives. Focus on finding what makes you happy and fulfilled. Don’t rush yourself into making a decision and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. It's your journey, take your time to explore and discover your path.
