In Search of the Best College for Military History Enthusiasts

I'm a military history buff and want to major in it, but I have no idea which university has the best program for it. Anyone have any significant insights or personal experiences?

If you're passionate about military history, there are several colleges known for their strong programs in this field. It's important to keep in mind that while 'Military History' might not be a standalone major at many colleges, you can likely concentrate or focus on military history within a general History or Political Science major.

One school that might catch your interest is Norwich University. As one of the oldest private military colleges in the U.S., it provides an excellent grounding in the history of war and military tactics. Specifically, their "Studies in War and Peace" major offers a solid curriculum in military history.

Ohio State University also boasts a robust history program with faculty specializing in military history. Ohio State's program covers various periods of history and geographical areas, offering a wide range for exploration.Additionally, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has a distinguished history department with faculty dedicated to military history, focusing on areas like the U.S. military, Civil War, and World War II.

Keep in mind, however, that the "best" program will depend on your specific areas of interest within military history. If there's a particular era, region, or aspect of military history you're interested in, like ancient warfare or naval history, you might want to look for programs with faculty who specialize in those areas.

Lastly, remember to consider whether the college overall, not just the program, is a good fit for you in terms of size, location, culture, and other factors that might impact your college experience. It's crucial to find a balance between your academic and personal needs.

Happy searching!
