Hi everyone, I found out that the University of Central Florida offers a National Merit Scholarship. As a National Merit semi-finalist, I'm interested but don't know much about it. Has anyone here received it or knows about it?
The University of Central Florida (UCF) does indeed offer scholarships for National Merit Scholars and Finalists. The package is quite comprehensive, it’s called the Benacquisto Scholarship, and it is designed to cover the full cost of attendance for National Merit Finalists. Here is what the scholarship entailed, as per the2024 -2025 academic year:
- The scholarship covers for 100% of the resident tuition, which is the in-state tuition rate, regardless of whether you're a Florida resident or not.- In addition, the scholarship provides an annual $3,000 UCF housing allowance, which would cover some, but not necessarily all, of your housing costs.- Furthermore, this award also includes a $15,000 UCF scholarship ($3,750 per semester), which can be used towards books, living expenses, and any other miscellaneous education costs.Remember that to maintain the scholarship, you must meet the continuation criteria. This typically includes maintaining full-time enrollment (at least12 credit hours per semester) and a minimum GPA.
Also, remember that the National Merit Scholarship organization itself also awards direct scholarships to a subset of finalists, including National Merit $2500 Scholarships, corporate-sponsored scholarships, and college-sponsored scholarships. You may be eligible for these as well, so keep that in mind. One last thing to consider is if you're comfortable with committing to UCF. Be sure to research their programs, campus life, and location to see if it's a good fit for you. After all, a great scholarship package is a wonderful thing, but it's also important to find a university environment where you'll be happy and successful.Good luck with your National Merit journey!
