College Credits for Military Training?

So I've done some training in the military. I was curious if It's possible to get college credits for it? Any advice is appreciated!

Having served in the military, there's quite a good chance you can earn college credit for your training. Many higher education institutions in the U.S. recognize the value of the skills and knowledge acquired during military service.

The first step is to obtain a Joint Services Transcript (JST). The JST is an academically accepted document approved by the American Council on Education (ACE) to validate a service member's military occupational experience and training. This transcript contains descriptions of your military duties and the ACE recommendations for potentially comparable college credits.Next, you submit your JST as part of your application for colleges you are interested in. Each college has its own policy about how they evaluate these credits, and it often depends on how your military training aligns with their course offerings. Generally, schools with a “military-friendly” label tend to accept more military training for academic credit.A potential setback is that while some schools may grant you credits that count towards your total credit requirement for graduation, they might not necessarily count towards your major. Moreover, the credits are typically evaluated as elective credits.Discussing this process with an admission counselor or academic advisor at your prospective or chosen school is an excellent way to ensure you are maximizing your earned service credits. The staff at your school’s Veterans Affairs (VA) Office can also be a great resource.

Remember, college credit for military training is a well-recognized standard used by colleges and universities across the United States. Your service not only benefits the nation, but it can also provide you a strong head start in your college journey. Good luck!
