FinQueer OverissistanceAid at Ohio State University for International Students

Hello everyone! I'm an international student and I'm strongly considering Ohio State. I'm wondering what kind of financial aid packages they offer for students like me. Any international Buckeyes here who can share their experiences with financial aid?

Hi there! Ohio State is indeed a superb choice and they do offer financial aid options for international students. However, it's important to know that their funding for international students can be quite competitive since it's limited.

One such option is the International Undergraduate Student Financial Aid Scholarship. This is a full-ride scholarship which covers tuition, fees, room and board, and mandatory health insurance for four years of undergraduate study. However, it's highly selective and only a handful of talented international students receive it each year. Recipients are selected based on their high school academic performance, ACT or SAT scores, as well as demonstrated leadership and engagement in their communities.

Another opportunity is the Emerging Global Leader Scholarship. This offers partial tuition waivers to students who have a proven record of leadership in their home community and a strong academic background.

Ohio State also offers departmental scholarships which vary depending on your major. So it might be worthwhile to reach out to your respective department to see if they can assist you further.

Keep in mind that these scholarships typically require a separate application. Be sure to check all deadlines and requirements to ensure your application is complete and submitted on time.

Also, remember that while these opportunities can significantly offset your cost of study, it's generally a good idea to have alternate sources of funding as well, especially if you’re reliant on financial aid to afford school. Even with aid, studying in the United States can be pricey, so exploring external scholarships or private funding could also be beneficial.

Lastly, I highly recommend reaching out to Ohio State's Office of International Affairs. Their staff is a wonderful resource for international students like you, and they can provide you with more specific information regarding financing your education at Ohio State. Best of luck with your application process!
