Hey guys, I'm super interested in Boston College, especially their military programs. I couldn't find much online though. Anyone know anything about it or have had any experiences to share? I've heard they offer ROTC, but I'd love to know more!
Boston College indeed offers both Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. Participating in a ROTC program could help you develop leadership skills and military knowledge while still getting the traditional college experience.
If you're considering the Army ROTC, it's important to know that the program is actually hosted by MIT in Cambridge, but Boston College students are able to participate through what's called a crosstown agreement. Army ROTC students would take their military science classes and conduct their physical training at MIT. The program includes a mix of regular coursework, physical fitness training, and leadership development tasks.
In contrast, the Air Force ROTC program is hosted directly at Boston College. It places a strong emphasis on leadership, character development, and physical fitness. Cadets also take aerospace studies classes throughout their college career.
Regardless of which program you choose, ROTC students can qualify for scholarships that might cover tuition, fees, and supply a monthly allowance. Keep in mind though that commissioning through ROTC involves a service commitment upon graduation, which means you'll serve as an active duty officer for a set number of years.
If you want to find out more about these programs, I suggest reaching out directly to the ROTC departments at Boston College or MIT. They should be able to send you more detailed information, and even set up a visit or put you in touch with current cadets. Keep in mind though that these programs require hard work and commitment, so you should make sure to consider carefully and understand all the requirements before deciding to participate.
