Does Amherst College have a military academy?

Hi everyone! I'm interested in both strong academics and military training, and I've looked into Amherst College. I ideally want a place where I can pursue both. Does Amherst have a military academy of its own?

Amherst College does not have a military academy. Generally, a military academy is a federally funded institution that is dedicated to undergraduate education and military training, like West Point or the Naval Academy. These academies are quite separate from traditional colleges and universities.

That said, Amherst College is part of the Five College Consortium, which includes Amherst College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. UMass Amherst has an Army ROTC program, and as a student at Amherst College, you could participate in this program through the Five College Consortium (although you would have to travel to the UMass campus for ROTC commitments).

ROTC could potentially allow you to combine the strong academics of Amherst College with military training from the UMass Amherst Army ROTC program. It's also worth noting that ROTC scholarships can help cover tuition costs, making this a financially viable option for some students.
