Using CLEP for College Credit in the Military?

Hi there, I've just enlisted and heard about CLEP to earn college credit. How does it work for military members? And are there any specific resources to prep for the College Math CLEP test?

CLEP, or College-Level Examination Program, is indeed a valuable option for military service members to earn college credit. The exams allow you to receive credit for what you've already learned, whether through prior coursework, independent study, work experience, or your military training. The best part? Active duty military personnel can take CLEP exams for free as part of the DANTES program.

As to how it works, you can choose from over 30 exams that cover various subjects, including college mathematics. Each exam is roughly 90-120 minutes long and is primarily multiple-choice. If you pass the exam, you can receive credit at over 2,900 colleges and universities, depending on their CLEP credit policies.

The College Board, which administers the CLEP, provides a range of resources for exam preparation, including study guides and practice tests. For the College Mathematics CLEP test, they provide an official study guide, which you can purchase on their website. It provides an overview of the topics that may be covered in the exam, examples of question types, tips for test-taking, and two practice tests for each exam.

There are other non-official resources that can be of great help. Study.com and Modern States have courses that are tailored specifically for CLEP exams. Modern States is a particularly good resource because all of their courses are free, and they even offer to pay for your testing fees if you complete one of their courses.

Remember to ensure the college or university you're interested in attending accepts CLEP credits and to verify the score you need to achieve to get the credits. Best of luck with your studies!
