Colleges in California accepting military training credits?

Hey everyone. I might receive some military training after high school, and I'm aware that some places give credits based on the training. So, are there any colleges in California that recognize this? I've tried checking online but couldn't find a definite answer.

Indeed, many colleges and universities in California do offer credit for military training. When approaching this, it's essential to understand that each institution may have its own policy for how they assess and award such credits.

For example, public institutions in California, like the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems, look at military credit on a case-by-case basis. They'll typically review your Joint Services Transcript (JST) which documents all your military training and experiences, in order to determine if any of that can be translated into academic credit.

Many community colleges in California, like those in the Los Angeles Community College District, also have policies in place to award credit for military service and training. These institutions commonly use American Council on Education (ACE) guidelines to determine course equivalencies for military training.

Additionally, some private colleges, including many of the ones within the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, might also accept military credits.

My recommendation would be to reach out directly to the admission offices of the specific colleges you're interested in. They will be able to give the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding their policies on accepting military training credits.

Remember, it's also important to ensure that the credits you earn will actually count towards your chosen degree program, and not just as general elective credits (unless that works towards your academic plan).

If possible, consider discussing your potential training plans with an academic advisor before you receive your training. They might provide guidance on maximizing the academic value of your military experience.
