Can military spouses get a waiver on college application fees?

Hi there! I'm a junior but I'm already a military spouse. I'm interested in applying to a few colleges next year. Do schools offer application fee waivers to military spouses? If yes, how do I go about getting these waivers?

Whether or not schools waive application fees for military spouses can vary greatly per institution. Some colleges and universities do offer waivers for military spouses as part of their commitment to serving military families, while others may not.

Typically, the process involves contacting the admissions office of the schools you are interested in applying to, in order to inquire about their policies regarding application fee waivers for military spouses. You may be asked to provide proof of your military affiliation, such as a copy of your spouse's orders or a military ID.

Keep in mind that there are other resources available to military spouses too. For example, resources provided through the Department of Defense, such as MyCAA, a career development and employment assistance program. MyCAA provides a scholarship for tuition (including application fees) for qualified military spouses.

It's also worth noting that many schools participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which can help cover any tuition costs that exceed the maximum federal funding available through the GI Bill.

Remember to plan ahead and send your requests for waivers well in advance of application deadlines to ensure you have ample time to prepare and submit your applications.

Keep in touch with each school's admission office to check on your fee waiver request status. Doing so will ensure you stay informed and understand what steps, if any, are needed next in the application process.
