What are the college benefits for military dependents in California?

So I'm a junior in HS, and my parent is a military staff stationed here in California. Lately, I've been thinking about my college applications a lot because, well, they're coming up faster than I expected! I heard that some states offer different benefits to military dependents for their college education. I was wondering what those might look like in California? Thanks!

California offers several beneficial programs for military dependents who are considering college.

Firstly, there's the Cal Vet College Tuition Fee Waiver for Veteran Dependents. This application allows students to apply for a college tuition fee waiver if their parent veteran has a 0% or greater service-connected disability, or is deceased. Do keep in mind that while this benefit waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at any State of California Community College, California State University, or University of California campus, it doesn't cover the expense of books, parking, or room and board.

For those who are out-of-state or non-resident students, there is also a non-resident college fee exemption. This benefit extends to dependents of armed forces members who are stationed in California on active duty. This waives the non-resident fees at California public institutions of higher education.

In terms of scholarships, you may also want to explore the Fisher House Foundation's "Scholarships for Military Children" program, which is open to sons and daughters of active military, reserve/guard, retired military, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military.

It's evident that the state of California does indeed provide several benefits to support military dependents. Remember to check with each college's financial aid office about your eligibility for these programs or additional institutional aid they may provide.
