Looking for the best colleges for Drama majors, any ideas?

Live theatre is where I shine the brightest and I want to chase this dream of mine in college too. What are some colleges with strong programs in Drama? Also, would love any advice on what factors I should consider in the application process.

In selecting a school that offers a strong program in Drama, there are quite a few notable institutions you might want to consider:

1. Juilliard School: Known for its rigorous performing arts programs, Juilliard offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama that provides comprehensive training in voice, speech, and movement.

2. Tisch School of the Arts at New York University: The school's Department of Drama combines training in acting, voice, motion, and physical acting with a comprehensive liberal arts education.

3. Carnegie Mellon University: CMU's School of Drama offers undergraduate programs in acting, musical theatre, directing, design, dramaturgy, and production technology and management.

4. University of Southern California: USC's School of Dramatic Arts offers programs in acting, design, stage management, and technical direction, among others.

5. Yale University: Yale's undergraduate Theater Studies program offers opportunities to study acting, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, and technical design.

In terms of what factors to consider in your application process, ensure that your passion for drama comes across in every component of your application—this can include your essay, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. Your drama teachers or mentors could provide a recommendation that speaks to your talent and dedication to drama.

In addition to academics, you should consider the practical aspects of the programs—availability of performance opportunities, faculty-to-student ratio, partnerships with local theaters, and, if possible, the culture of the drama department, which might involve talking to current students or attending performances by the school's drama department.

Lastly, consider the proximity of the school to a major city with a thriving theater scene. Opportunities for networking, internships, and experiencing professional productions can be beneficial for a Drama student.

Best of luck in your college search and future endeavors in drama!
