Texas History Major Programs

Sup guys, I'm aiming to major in History and I'm scouting colleges in Texas. Any suggestions for some of the best programs in TX? Any insider tips on these programs are welcome.

Hi there! That's an excellent choice - majoring in History can open up various rewarding career paths, from teaching and research to legal professions.

Starting off with some of the top TX programs, the University of Texas at Austin particularly stands out due to its strong faculty and diverse course offerings, ranging from Texas history, U.S. history, to numerous periods and areas of global history. Their history department also has many resources to support undergraduate research projects, which can be a huge plus if you're interested in delving deeper into a specific area of history.

Rice University in Houston is another institution with a highly-regarded history program. The university has a strong focus on research in historical study which again makes it a great choice if that's an avenue you're interested in.

Texas A&M University also has a well respected History department. In particular, they offer a unique program called the "Public History Track" which focuses on the numerous ways history is applied outside of the academic realm, such as in museums, historical preservation, corporate history, and so on.

Remember that each program will have its distinct strengths and course offerings, so it would be a good idea to check each program's course catalog to see if it offers courses that align with your specific interests within history.

Lastly, I would suggest reaching out to current students or alumni from these programs as another way of getting an insider perspective. They could provide valuable insight into things like the course load, professors, and opportunities for research or internships.

Good luck on your college search!
