College Resources for Military Students

I'm a rising junior extensively planning for post-graduation, and the military is in my future sights. Anyone on here have a clue about resources available to military students at colleges? Guides, veteran services or advice hubs? I'd love to hear what help I could potentially get.

Sure! There are various resources available to military-affiliated students at colleges across the country, both in terms of financial aid and supportive services.

Firstly, financial aid can be far-reaching for military students. There's the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible veterans and service members, including tuition, fees, a monthly housing allowance, and money for books and supplies. Alongside this is the Yellow Ribbon Program, which can make private university or graduate school tuition more affordable for Post-9/11 GI Bill beneficiaries.

A variety of schools also participate in the DoD's Tuition Assistance program, which pays up to 100% of tuition expenses for semester hours costing $250 or less.

Still on the topic of financial aid, there's the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant for students whose parent or guardian died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Next, many campuses have Veterans Offices or Student Veteran Services. These offices can guide you through the process of requesting your educational benefits from the government, provide academic advising, and give access to tutoring resources.

They often also host events and create opportunities for veterans and military students to interact and build community. They can also point you towards other resources like mental health services or employment assistance.

Finally, you may want to see if your school has a chapter of Student Veterans of America. SVA provides military students with resources, support, and advocacy to ensure their academic success.

Remember to take advantage of these resources and ask for help when you need it.
