Where to Major in Spanish?

Hi! I'm a rising junior and I have a profound love for Spanish. I'm thinking about majoring in Spanish, but I'm not sure which colleges offer the best programs. Does anyone have any insight on this?

There are several institutions across the country that are known to have strong Spanish programs.

1. Middlebury College: Middlebury is well-known for its immersive language programs, including Spanish. They also have a renowned Language School in summer where you can do advanced study, and even complete a Masters', completely in the target language.

2. Georgetown University: Georgetown has a robust Spanish program and is highly recognized for languages and international studies. Washington D.C. offers numerous opportunities for internships related to Spanish-language proficiency.

3. University of Chicago: The Spanish program at UChicago is interdisciplinary and can be paired greatly with other humanities.

4. Stanford University: Stanford's program combines Spanish language, literature, culture, and linguistics, and allows for a deep dive into the Hispanic world.

5. Pomona College: As a liberal arts college, Pomona provides a very intimate setting for language learning. They have a great Spanish department.

6. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA): With UCLA's location in multicultural Los Angeles, you can find a great blend of academics and real-world application of the Spanish language.

Remember, the best program for you will not just be about the rankings, but also about how well the program suits your goals, interests, and learning style. A great way to evaluate if a program may be a good fit is to look at the courses offered, the faculty, and any study abroad options. You might also want to consider opportunities for immersion, like language houses, conversation groups, and study abroad programs.
